I count the stars,
While waiting for the sun,
There are millions to spend the night with,
I am still waiting for the one.
The night becomes poisoned,
And the aching strong,
Something in this wait,
Seems completely wrong.
Yet when dawn breaks,
And I wake up in light,
The night is a distant memory,
The day is just right.
I look at the sun,
And smile in delight.
Yes he is the one,
Though he may not set all things right.
And somewhere far, all those stars,
Go on with their job of soothing restless souls in the night,
Knowing well the eyes fixed on them are doped,
And they will be conveniently forgotten by the morning light.
